On Monday in the Dominican, Oneil Cruz was on the bench to start the second game of the season, after going 0-for-6 with three strikeouts in the opener. He ended up coming into Monday’s game late and he went 1-for-2 with a double.
Pablo Reyes went 0-for-4 in game two, after going 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the opener.
Socrates Brito, who is a free agent now, went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his season debut.
Miguel Del Pozo, also a free agent, recorded two outs in his debut, walking one and striking out two, while allowing an unearned run.
Tuesday
Oneil Cruz went 2-for-5 with two singles, a run scored and an RBI. He also had two strikeouts. He played until the tenth inning before leaving on a multi-player defensive switch, with Jake Elmore taking his spot in the batting order. Cruz is 3-for-13 with a double and five strikeouts.
Yerry De Los Santos made his winter debut and picked up the win by striking out the side in order in the 12th inning. He had a 1.44 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 50 innings with Greensboro in 2019.
Pablo Reyes was 0-for-3 with a walk, stolen base and error. He’s 1-for-12 in three games.
In Mexico, Fabricio Macias went 1-for-5 with a single, walk, run scored and his fourth stolen base. He’s hitting .279/.333/.410 in 19 games.
Randy Romero was used as a pinch-runner. He didn’t do anything on the bases or play defense. He is 2-for-9 with a walk (no strikeouts) and a stolen base in 13 games.
We mentioned that the league in Mexico shut down due to multiple COVID-19 positive tests. It turns out that one was Pirates prospect Fernando Villegas. The 22-year-old, who topped out at Morgantown in 2019, was 1-for-12 in ten games this season. He has not yet been given the okay to return.
