Pirates Designate Neverauskas for Assignment

The Pirates had one more space to open up on the 40-man roster to make room for players reinstated from the 45-day injured list.  They made it by designating right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas for assignment.  In parts of four seasons, Neverauskas has gone 1-4-0, 6.81 in 76 games and 80.2 IP.  He’s allowed an alarming 20 dingerz, or one every four innings.  Of course, he could clear waivers and be outrighted to Indianapolis, but the only team that routinely claims pitchers with track records like his is the Pirates.

The tally so far on players removed from the roster:

Dovydas Neverauskas
Nick Burdi
Yacksel Rios
Brandon Waddell (lost on waivers)
Nick Tropeano (lost on waivers)
Kevin Kramer
Luke Maile
John Ryan Murphy
Jason Martin
Chris Archer (option declined)
Keone Kela (free agent)
Derek Holland (free agent)

There will, of course, be more as the Pirates will have to protect some players from the Rule 5 draft by November 20.  Just at a guess, that could be when they’ll make some decisions on their arbitration-eligible players, like Michael Feliz, Trevor Williams, Jose Osuna and Erik Gonzalez.
