The Pittsburgh Pirates (14-32) take on the Cincinnati Reds (23-26) in game three of a four-game series. The Pirates were swept in a doubleheader last night. Joe Musgrove will be on the mound today against right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen. Musgrove has a 5.40 ERA in six starts, with 26 strikeouts and a 1.57 WHIP in 21.2 innings. Lorenzen has made 15 relief appearances this season. This will be his first start. He has a 5.23 ERA in 20.2 innings, with 17 strikeouts and a 1.65 WHIP.
Prior to the game, the Pirates recalled pitcher Blake Cederlind and sent down Jason Martin. With 13 days (14 games) left in the season, Cederlind will get a few games of MLB experience to help him going into next year. My guess is that he remains with the club until the end of the season
