The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Bashlor on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation. To take his place on the active roster, the Pirates have recalled left-handed pitcher Austin Davis.
Bashlor has made eight relief appearances for the Pirates, posting an 8.64 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP in 8.1 innings. The 27-year-old was acquired from the New York Mets back on August 2nd. While they haven’t announced anything, the timing of this injury will make it hard for Bashlor to pitch again this year. The season ends in 16 days, so he might get 1-2 appearances if he misses the minimum time.
Davis is joining the Pirates for the first time. In parts of three seasons with the Phillies, the 27-year-old southpaw has a 5.86 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP in 58.1 innings over 50 appearances. This season he allowed seven runs over three innings before being acquired by the Pirates two weeks ago. He reported to the Altoona training site and was scheduled to join the Pirates on this current road trip as part of the taxi squad before being activated today.
