Pirates Add Jason Martin to Active Roster

The Pittsburgh Pirates will add outfielder Jason Martin to the active roster ahead of tonight’s game in Milwaukee. Earlier in the day, the Pirates traded Jarrod Dyson to the Chicago White Sox, opening a roster spot. Martin was with the Pirates for four days earlier this year, but he never got into a game. He hit .250/.325/.306 in 20 games last year during his first season in the majors. The Pirates picked up outfielder Anthony Alford off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, so Martin’s stay could be very short.

The Pirates also placed left-handed pitcher Austin Davis on the 10-day injured list, one day after he was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies. No reason was given, so it could just be a phantom IL trip to get him back throwing before he joins the team. He last pitched 15 days ago and only lasted 1/3 of an inning.

As expected, Cody Ponce was optioned back to Altoona following last night’s game. Ponce was added specifically as the extra man for the doubleheader yesterday.
