The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that there won’t be a doubleheader with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. With both teams off on Monday, there was word that they could possibly play a doubleheader that day for Saturday and Sunday’s postponed games. No makeup date has been announced yet, but the two clubs meet again September 4-6 in Pittsburgh and September 14-16 in Cincinnati.
The Pirates had one of their postponed road games against the Cardinals rescheduled for a doubleheader in Pittsburgh, so it’s possible that they could split up the postponed games between the two series. No Pirates players tested positive for COVID-19 after one Reds player did on Friday.
Here’s the reason from Derek Shelton:
Derek Shelton on why the Pirates-Reds aren't playing Monday: "MLB has decided protocol-wise that they did not want us to play Monday. What goes into that decision happens a lot higher than me. They just informed us that we’re not going to play Monday, and we’ll reschedule."
