The Pirates are off the next three days after their series with St. Louis was postponed due to the COVID outbreak for the Cardinals. With no baseball to cover, you might wonder what we’ve got in store for you this week at Pittsburgh Baseball Network.
This site was designed under one main question: How do we cover baseball when there is no baseball to cover?
First, there’s too much history in this organization to cover in one lifetime. We’re writing about as much as possible over at Pittsburgh Baseball History. There, you can read Wilbur Miller’s daily 1979 Season Replay, plus John Dreker’s “This Date In Pirates History” and plenty of other regular features. We’ll have a few additional articles going up in the next few days, aside from the daily features.
Here on No Quarter, the focus is about building a community where Pirates fans can discuss the team, the sport, and any other subject they wish. First Pitch has operated as a site update and open discussion post. We’ve had some active game discussions, although that is obviously out this week.
With the absence of games, we’ll have a few articles looking at the current team, including the return of our OOTP simulation. In the OOTP world, the Pirates are actually above .500, and in second place in the NL Central. I’m going to be looking this week at what the OOTP simulation got right, and what it got wrong, compared to real results so far. Wilbur Miller will also have an article or two this week, and we’ll keep you updated on any news that comes up.
I’ll be working on the back end of the site this week, moving to add some features to the site, and looking to make sure that everyone’s account has been transferred from Pirates Prospects to PBN. If you notice any issues, let me know in the comments.
