The Pittsburgh Pirates (3-12) take on the Detroit Tigers (7-5) in the finale of a three-game series at PNC Park on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates lost yesterday’s game by an 11-5 score. Steven Brault will start in place of Joe Musgrove, who was scratched due to minor soreness in his ankle. Brault pitched in relief just two days ago and couldn’t retire a single batter, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks, throwing 32 pitches (13 strikes). In his two previous outings, he tossed a total of five shutout innings. The Tigers are countering with right-hander Spencer Turnbull, who had a 2.45 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 11 innings over two starts.
If you missed it from earlier, the Pirates made some transactions. Phillip Evans is done for the year. Nick Mears sent down. Jose Osuna and Brandon Waddell join the fun.
The Pirates-Cardinals game for tomorrow is postponed. No word (as of 12:30 PM) whether or not they will play Tuesday/Wednesday
