After Wednesday night’s loss at PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced that they have optioned outfielders Jose Osuna and Guillermo Heredia to the Alternate Training Site in Altoona. All 30 teams need to make cuts to get their rosters down to 28 players by noon on Thursday. MLB also announced that they will keep 28-man rosters for the rest of the season, and teams can now carry five-man taxi squads on the road. It was previously limited to three taxi squad players.

Osuna hit .158/.238/.316 in six games this season, while Heredia batted .188/.278/.188 in 18 plate appearances over eight games. The Pirates decided to keep a 15-man pitching staff and 13 position players, including JT Riddle, who was activated prior to tonight’s game.
