The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Sunday afternoon that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Tyler Bashlor from the New York Mets for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated LHP Robbie Erlin for assignment.
The 27-year-old Bashlor has appeared in the majors each of the last two seasons with the Mets, making 24 relief appearances each year. In 2018, he had a 4.22 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP, with 25 strikeouts in 34 innings. Last year, his ERA went up to 6.22, while he had a 1.73 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 22 innings. He has not appeared in the majors this year.
The 29-year-old Erlin allowed two runs over 3.1 innings in his only two appearances with the Pirates. He previously had a 4.57 ERA over six seasons with the San Diego Padres.
